Jianping Yi is Professor of Anthropology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Scholar of Xiaoxiang (a titled professor) at Hunan Normal Univer-sity (China). His current research is focused on the direct connection between the social size and the evolution of forms of political organization. His publications include: Size of a Society and the Evolution of its Political Organization. World History 2006(5): 88–97; Origins of Democracy and Despotism.
