Emeritus Professor of Demography at Oxford University. His research interests include the effects of international migration on the population and economy of receiving countries, the meaning of demographic transition and the future of the census. His most recent paper ‘The Death of the West: Аn Alternative View’ (with Stuart Basten) was published in a special edition of Population Studies entitled Population: The Long View (2015) of which he was senior guest editor.
